A sad farewell...

March 12, 2009

It breaks my heart to make this announcement, but Hope Springs Kennels will be closing. We recently found out about some health issues in our family and will be unable to continue raising our precious fur-babies. What makes this even harder for us is that we will have to find homes for our adults as well. This was NOT an easy decision for us to make, and we have spent many sleepless nights trying to find a way to continue on. But we really need to focus on what is going on in our home right now, and there simply won’t be the time or finances to keep going.

We have three little boys who are available right now. After those puppies are placed, we will officially close our doors. Perhaps in the future we might begin again, but I honestly don’t know when or if that will happen.

This has been a tremendous experience for us, and one we are so grateful to have been a part of. Through the years we have had the pleasure of meeting some of the most wonderful people, and have even made lifelong friends with some of them. It has been an honor to be a part of the lives of our beloved dogs and their beautiful babies and help to raise them.

We will never forget the puppies we have helped bring into this world and the unadulterated joy each and every one of them has brought into our lives. There have certainly been difficult times, bottle feeding a weak puppy around the clock, nursing little ones back to health if they got sick and even having to say goodbye to precious little ones who just were never strong enough to make it. These were definitely the hardest, and we have a spot in our front yard that has been memorialized for our sweet babies so they may never be forgotten. But for every day of heartbreak, there have been hundreds of wonderful ones. There is no feeling in the world like that of half a dozen puppies tripping over themselves to be the first to lick your face and give you every ounce of love their little hearts have to offer.

To all our past puppy parents and families, we thank you. It has been bittersweet letting our precious babies leave us to begin their lives with you. A little piece of us went with each puppy, and we have cried over every one of them… some more than others. But seeing the look on your face or hearing the excitement in your voice as you were hugging your little one and knowing that they were now part of your family – our heartbreak was worth it all. Thank you for all your support and confidence in us. We have been very honored to have played such an important role in your lives.

Mountie is our gentle giant, weighing in at a whopping 91 lbs! We think someone forgot to tell him that he is not a Yorkie, as he seems to believe he is a lapdog! Mountie is very diligent about making sure his territory is well known and once he is let into the play area for the day, he spends the first 30 – 45 minutes just making sure everything is still as it should be. He is definitely our “King Tut”! Mountie is a beautiful red and white splashcoat with blue eyes. He carries the piebald gene, has sired several litters for us, and is both AKC and CKC registered. Mountie is 8 years old. He has NOT been nuetered.

"Oh my gosh!" is the first thing people normally say when they see Dimitri, and it's no wonder why... he is stunning! We brought Dimitri home from a fellow breeder's home back in February '07, and even we can't get enough of looking at him! He is a "wooly", which means that he will always have the fluffy coat, and his classic mask amid startling blue eyes made our breath catch in our throats. But there is so much more to Dimitri than good looks! He is sugary sweet, and don't let his size fool you, he is the biggest baby! Dimitri is happiest, as are we, when he is snuggling and being snuggled back - if you can get around all that fur! Dimitri has sired several litters for us, and we often reffered to him as "the god amongst huskies" as his puppies always had the most wonderful temperament. He carries the wooly gene and we typically get a couple from each litter he sires. Dimitri is AKC and CKC registered and is 2 years old. He has NOT been nuetered.

Hope is our veteran mom and queen among the pack. She is definitely the Alpha around town and lets no one forget it! But unlike most rulers in history, she is very sweet and loving. She has been an exceptional companion to us, as well as a loving and devoted mom. We have decided to continue only her line, as her temperament and disposition are remarkable and she seems to pass those traits down to all of her children. Hope is gray, black and white with blue eyes. Hope is AKC registered and is 7 years old. She has NOT been spayed

Sylvie is a mess, but in a good way! She is very loving and affectionate, but also shy around people she doesn’t know. Sylvie doesn’t join in the games with the other dogs as much, but when she is in the mood to play she is hilarious! She will bounce from side to side like a cartoon dog, and she reminds me of a “bobble-head” toy the way she bobs her head around! While all of her pups have been well-socialized and love to play, Sylvie seems to enjoy just hanging in the background and watching everyone else. Sylvie is gray, black and white with one blue and one brown eye. Sylvie is CKC registered and is 7 years old. She has NOT been spayed.

Chloe is the daughter of Hope and Paco and has truly taken the best from each parent. She is as sweet as the day is long, friendly and affectionate. She is also very laid back, especially for a husky, and prefers to let things roll off her back instead of making fusses. She is considered a "petite" husky, but what she lacks in size she more than makes up for in love! Chloe is gray, black and white with one blue and one brown eye. She is AKC registered and is 3 years old. She has NOT been spayed.

Keeska is truly a ray of sunshine. She is one of our most sweet natured girls and wants nothing more from life than to love and be loved. Keeska is very gently and has an outstanding temperament, would be wonderful in a home with kids. Unlike most huskies, she doesn't pull on the leash and she was very easy to train and only needed a soft touch to do it. She is a beautiful gray and white with blue eyes. Keeska is NOT spayed and is AKC registered.

Hershey is a gorgeous red and white wooly girl. She has one eye that is blue and one that is half blue, half amber. She is just under a year old, so she is still a puppy. Hershey is very active and while she is extremely sweet and loving, she does have more of a dominant personality. She would do great in a home with children and other dogs, but certainly cannot go to a home with cats. Hershey has NOT been spayed, and is AKC registered.
